Malcolm Huxter

Malcolm began following the teachings of the Buddha in the 1975s with Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism. Since then, he has mostly practised insight and serenity within the Theravada traditions which has included: ordaining in forest traditions of Thailand for 2 years in the late 1970s’, several intensive long retreats within the Mahasi traditions, and yearly self-retreats with teachers who teach serenity meditation. He is a clinical psychologist currently working in private practice in Lismore. He has been teaching meditation for over 30 years to range of populations in courses, workshops and retreats. He published a book on the four establishments of mindfulness for stress, anxiety and depression in 2016.

Introduction to the Buddha’s 16 steps of mindfulness of breathing
June 13 - 16, 2025

This retreat is an introduction to the Buddha’s mindfulness of breathing practice as described in the Ānāpānasati Sutta. This sutta describes 16 steps co-joining the insight and serenity aspects of meditation to arrive at complete awakening. Over the two and half days of this retreat, participants will be invited practice at least up until the 8th step. Participants will also be invited to practice one or more of the four divine abodes: benevolence, compassion, appreciative joy and or equanimity. The retreat finishes lunch time on Monday June 16.
