Medlow Bath Sitting Group
There is a weekly group meditation at BMIMC in Medlow Bath that meets on Wednesday evenings on nights that retreats are not scheduled. Several local supporters who are experienced meditators share responsibility for leading the group.
The sessions are from 7pm to 8pm and the format is sitting meditation with occasionally a short reading at the end of the sit. There are paths outside for walking meditation if people wish to walk instead of,or as well as,sitting.
If you are unfamiliar with this type of meditation practice, please contact BMIMC and some guidance before the session can be arranged. Visitors are welcome to stay for a cuppa and chat after the sitting if they wish.
Sydney Group Sits
There is a group meditation each week in Sydney. The group meets at Balance Yoga, Australia Post Building, Level 1, 181A Glebe Point Road, Glebe (entrance from St Johns Road). The sessions are from 7 – 9 pm each Friday evening (except long weekends) and although there is no charge for attending, you are welcome to make a donation. If you arrive after 7pm and the door is locked please knock. From December to March each year the group is in recess. The format is 30 minutes sitting, 30 minutes walking, 30 minutes sitting then usually a talk or some discussion.
The group is open to anyone who would like to learn how to practice insight meditation. If you are unfamiliar with this type of meditation practice and would like some guidance, please try to arrive a bit earlier and let the group leader know. Four experienced meditators share responsibility for leading the group: Graham Wheeler, Michael Dash, John Skennar and Theresa Baw.
Canberra Insight Meditation Group
The group meets on Sunday evenings from 6.30 – 8.15 in the shrine room of the Sakyamuni Buddhist Centre at 32 Archibald Street, Lyneham.
We begin with 30 minutes loving kindness practice, followed by 30 minutes of walking and then 30 minutes of sitting. After this there is some time for questions or discussion.
The group is led by Lesley Lebkowicz and John McIntyre. Experienced meditators in this tradition are welcome at any time. New people are invited to join on the first Sunday of every month when there is instruction for anyone new to this practice. Please bring your own cushions or a sitting bench. There is no floor covering in summer and you may also like to bring a cloth to place under your feet.
The instruction is given free of charge but a donation to the temple who generously gives us this space is encouraged. For up to date information please visit the CIMG website.
