Weekly Meditation Groups

Medlow Bath Sitting Group

There is a weekly group meditation at BMIMC in Medlow Bath that meets on Wednesday evenings on nights that retreats are not scheduled. Several local supporters who are experienced meditators share responsibility for leading the group.

The sessions are from 7pm to 8pm and the format is sitting meditation with occasionally a short reading at the end of the sit. There are paths outside for walking meditation if people wish to walk instead of,or as well as,sitting.

If you are unfamiliar with this type of meditation practice, please contact BMIMC and some guidance before the session can be arranged. Visitors are welcome to stay for a cuppa and chat after the sitting if they wish.

Canberra Insight Meditation Group

The group meets on Sunday evenings from 6.30 – 8.15 in the shrine room of the Sakyamuni Buddhist Centre at 32 Archibald Street, Lyneham.

We begin with 30 minutes loving kindness practice, followed by 30 minutes of walking and then 30 minutes of sitting. After this there is some time for questions or discussion.

The group is led by Lesley Lebkowicz and John McIntyre. Experienced meditators in this tradition are welcome at any time. New people are invited to join on the first Sunday of every month when there is instruction for anyone new to this practice. Please bring your own cushions or a sitting bench. There is no floor covering in summer and you may also like to bring a cloth to place under your feet.

The instruction is given free of charge but a donation to the temple who generously gives us this space is encouraged. For up to date information please visit the CIMG website.

Sydney Group Sits

As of December 2018 the Sydney sitting group in Glebe is no longer running. While a new group and venue may emerge in the future there are currently no specific plans. If you are interested in starting a group, have an established meditation practice and some familiarity with the Mahasi tradition or other practices taught at BMIMC  we would be very interested to hear your ideas! Please get in touch with the office.
