28-Day Retreat with Patrick Kearney

with Patrick Kearney

August 25 - September 22, 2023

Program is fully booked

Patrick teaches satipaṭṭhana, the way of mindfulness, in the lineage of Mahasi Sayadaw. He emphasises the cultivation of a felt continuity of awareness by tracking the elemental flow of experience that lies beneath our habitual concepts and reactions. As we become intimate with what is already present, we discover the radical simplicity of the practice, and we learn to “live independently, not clinging to anything in the world” (Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta MN 10).

This retreat is designed for experienced practitioners who ‘feel independent in their practice, to the degree that they can be confident in their ability to maintain their practice with the minimum of external support’.

Preference will be given to people who are able to sit for the whole month.

Teacher

Patrick Kearney
Patrick Kearney is an independent dharma teacher in the lineage of Mahāsī Sayādaw of Burma, his principal teachers being Paṇḍitarama Sayādaw and John Hale. He has also trained in the Diamond Sangha lineage of Zen Buddhism. His original teacher was Robert Aitken Roshi, and he is now studying with Paul Maloney Roshi. Patrick has a particular interest in the Buddha’s teachings before Theravāda or Mahāyāna were thought of. He studies Pāli and seeks to bring his understanding of the early texts to the practice of dharma in the contemporary world. For further details see his website.
