What we’re looking for in a Committee Member
A commitment to the Buddha Dhamma in a form compatible with the Centre’s aims.
A personal history of practice and study of the Buddha Dhamma over a number of years.
The ability to work collaboratively with others and exercise thoughtfulness, flexibility and curiosity.
Ideally, skills relevant to the Centre’s management such as HR, legal, financial, marketing, fundraising, project management, IT or building.
Expectations of a Committee Member
Attend committee meetings in person at the Centre (at least 3 of the 4 regular meetings each year – plus be available for occasional online meetings).
Actively participate in the committee’s oversight of the Centre’s operations including employment of staff, financial management, retreat scheduling, health and safety issues, risk management and volunteer recruitment.
Accept responsibility for progressing issues between committee meetings.
Commit for a minimum two-year period (to ensure continuity).
Be prepared to give six months’ notice if stepping down (to ensure stability).
Be a custodian of the Centre’s culture by modelling the Buddha’s teachings on sila in your day-to-day interactions with other members of the committee, staff, volunteers and the broader community.
